It’s a clash between Serie A’s 7th placed team and 8th placed team in match week 25 of the 2017/18 season. Fiorentina make the trip to the San Siro hoping to leapfrog the seven-time Champions League winners in the table. AC Milan will be disappointed to see themselves dropping further away from a return to European football and Fiorentina will also be looking to make a relatively-late push for the same goal.

STATS

  • Since the beginning of 2017, AC Milan have only won 2 of their 7 league games and only 1 in their last 6. This poor form has seen them slip further and further away from the top 3, keeping them 10 points off the Champions League places. Their home form hasn’t been anything to write home about this season either, they have only managed 2 wins in their last 6 matches at the San Siro.
  • Since the start of the year, Fiorentina have won 3 of their 6 league games, with a 2-1 win over Juventus at home being the highlight of their whole season. Fiorentina have been quite good on the road so far this season, 2 of their 3 wins in 2017 have come away from home.
  • One of AC Milan’s big problems this season has been finding a deadly goal scorer in the league. Carlos Bacca has been their top scorer in the league with only 8 goals, a disappointing total for a striker known for his quality in front of goal. But injury has limited the amount of opportunities he’s had on the pitch.
  • Fiorentina haven’t had the same problem as Nikola Kalinic and Federico Bernardeschi have both registered 10 league goals so far. This means that between them, they have contributed to nearly half of Fiorentina’s goals in the league this season.

HEAD TO HEAD

The recent fixtures between these two sides have been pretty fair, there has been 2 draws, 2 Fiorentina wins and 2 AC Milan wins in the last 6 meetings between the sides. In the earlier meeting between these teams this season, it ended 0-0.

AC MILAN NEWS

As AC Milan look to re-establish their push for a European place, they certainly have their work cut out with a host of players on the injury table. Riccardo Montolivo and Giacomo Bonaventura will miss most of the season, possibly even the rest of the season. Luca Antonelli, Mattia De Sciglio, Alessio Romagnoli and Davide Calabria will return to the side soon but the game against Fiorentina will be too soon for the players.

FIORENTINA NEWS

Fiorentina will look to take over AC Milan in the league table as well as the other teams directly above them in hope to find themselves in a European place at the end of the season. They should have a chance to pick up all 3 points in Milan as they only have 2 absences. Riccardo Saponara and goal scorer, Federico Bernardeschi will both miss the game at the week end.

SUMMING UP!

Whilst AC Milan have such a rich history and home advantage, with several players unavailable, they will certainly have to be at their very best in order to beat Fiorentina. Fiorentina will definitely fancy their chances on their trip to the San Siro and could very easily return back with all 3 points. It might be a game where the team who score first will go on and win the game.
