The 2018/19 Serie A season is winding to a close and there are still plenty of points to play for in the race for the top-four places. Two of the challenging sides meet on Saturday as AC Milan play host to Lazio.

  • AC Milan are currently occupying that lucrative fourth spot in the league but they are on the same number of points as Atalanta who sit below them in 5th. With just one win in their last five matches, it has become a tougher task that it should have been for the European giants. They were unfortunate to come away with no points last time out as a late Moise Kean winner saw them lose 2-1 against Juventus.
  • Lazio seem much further down the pecking order in 7th position but they find themselves just three points behind Milan with a game-in-hand over the sides above them. Their form has only been slightly better with two victories in five games and that will have to improve if they want Champions League football. They drew 2-2 with Sassuolo in their last game.
  • Krzysztof Piatek is the frontrunner for the Serie A Golden Boot with 21 goals and has been in terrific form since joining Milan in January.
  • Ciro Immobile is much further behind than he would like to be but he is still Lazio’s leading goal scorer this term with 14 league goals.

The recent meetings between the two sides have been relatively even with three draws in the last six, including the reverse fixture in November where it finished 1-1. However, when they met at the San Siro last season, it was the hosts who came out on top with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Patrick Cutrone and Giacomo Bonaventura.

The home side can drastically increase their chances of securing that fourth place with three points on Saturday but if they drop points then they could be in trouble of missing out. Bonaventura and Lucas Paqueta miss out while Gianluigi Donnarumma and Suso are doubts.

The visitors need at least a draw to keep their Champions League hopes on course but they are without Milan Badelj (suspension) and Jordan Lukaku (injury).

As ever with these two teams, it seems extremely hard to pick a winner which is backing a draw might be wise. AC Milan have been heavily reliant on the goalscoring talents of Piatek and that may well continue at the weekend as he will be desperate for the Golden Boot, putting your trust in the Polish striker to score and the game to end as a draw provides great value.
