Bayern Munich make the trip to London as they look to seal the deal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie. The Gunners are trailing by 5 goals to 1 and for them to go through would need a huge miracle, especially because of how poorly they have played in recent weeks. Bayern will struggle to lose this tie now after their battering of Arsenal at the Allianz Arena a few weeks ago.

STATS

  • Arsenal’s from across all competitions has been poor recently and Bayern aren’t going to make this any easier in their second leg. The only competition they are having any luck in so far is the FA Cup where they have found themselves in a quarter-final tie with Lincoln, which they should comfortably win. Arsenal have done well at home in Europe this season, they haven’t lost yet.
  • As is becoming the trend, Bayern are running away with the Bundesliga title and with the league pretty much in the bag, they can put their focus on another Champions League trophy. However, so far this campaign, they’ve lost 2 of their away European games against Atletico and Rostov.
  • Robert Lewandowski has been on-fire for Bayern in their European games this season and he leads their scoring charts in the competition with 6 goals, only Messi and Cavani have managed more. Thiago scored his only two goals in the Champions League in the first leg and he’ll be hoping to add to that in this one.
  • Germany international, Mesut Ozil, is Arsenal’s top scorer in the Champions League with 4 goals from midfield. However, he has been known to be non-existent in Arsenal’s big games, but if they want to go through, he’ll need to be right on his game.

HEAD TO HEAD

In the last two meetings between the two sides, Bayern have come out 5-1 winners but in the last meeting at the Emirates, Arsenal won 2-0, but it wouldn’t be enough to see them go through this year.

ARSENAL NEWS

Arsenal will have to take lots of risks in this game to have any kind of chance of defeating Bayern Munich but without one of their main players, Santi Cazorla, they’ll certainly struggle. He has been missing all season for the Gunners and they have ultimately failed to come anywhere near filling the void left by the Spaniard’s injury. Other than that, a fully available team will give Arsene Wenger a tactical headache.

BAYERN MUNICH NEWS

Bayern Munich could probably put out a reserve side and still go through to the quarter-final but just to make sure they don’t, it very likely that a strong team will be put out at the Emirates. Although, the German champions will be without a few big players with Phillip Lahm (suspended) and Douglas Costa (injury) will miss the game in England.

SUMMING UP!

Even though Arsenal will possibly steal a win on the night at the Emirates, they will find it almost impossible to get themselves into the hat for the next round of the Champions League. Bayern will still be the favourites for the 90-minute win in London and will almost definitely get through to the next round. Although, Arsenal have a good history of getting a good second leg result after a battering in the first leg.
