As we are into the beginning of December, the winter break in Europe comes ever closer. Although, there is still plenty of matches to come in the next few weeks. One of the biggest is this weekend as Inter travel to Rome as they hope to maintain their title push.

STATS

  • Roma have been disappointing in the league so far this season and find themselves 7th in the table with five wins, four draws and four losses. Although, they are only four points outside the top four and a decent run of form might see them break into the Champions League places. They’ve won just one of their five matches in the league which has seen them fall out of touch with the sides above them.
  • Inter are like a new team this term and are 3rd in the table just a point behind Napoli who sit 2nd. They have won nine games, drawn one and lost three but still sit 12 points behind Juventus who are running away with the league once again. Inter have won eight of their last nine fixtures which is why they are beginning to cement a place in the top four. They beat Frosinone 3-0 in their last league game.
  • Roma have struggled to find a prolific source of goals so far this season, Stephan El Shaarawy leads the way with five.
  • Mauro Icardi is once again Inter’s leading talisman and with seven goals in Serie A this term, he will be expecting to challenge for the Golden Boot.

HEAD TO HEAD

The last six meetings between these two sides have been incredibly equal, there have been two wins for each of them and two draws. Inter actually won this fixture last season, securing a 3-1 victory in Rome as they came from behind with just over 20 minutes left. Both teams have scored in each of the last five fixtures between the two with over 2.5 goals coming in three of those.

ROMA NEWS

A win for Roma can take them into 5th but they are certainly up against a strong side. They haven’t been very lucky with injuries recently and could be missing up to six players including Daniele De Rossi, Edin Dzeko and El Shaarawy who all face late fitness tests.

SUMMARY

It’s a really tough game to call with two of Italian football’s biggest sides facing off. As has happened in the last five meetings, both teams should score and it might be worth backing Inter to win who are in fantastic form as opposed to Roma who have struggled of late.
