There’s a break from the regular league schedule for some of Spain’s top teams as the Copa del Rey last 16 second legs draw to a close on Thursday after several ties on Wednesday. One of those sees Barcelona hosting Levante as they look to overturn the 2-1 deficit from the first leg.

STATS

  • Barcelona have been firing well in all competitions this season and there is still every chance they will complete a magnificent treble. They entered the Copa del Rey in the last round and eased past Cultural Leonesa to set up a tie with Levante which has proved trickier than expected after they lost the first leg.
  • Levante have had an average season so far in La Liga but cup success could really lift their campaign, especially if they knock out the current holders. They had to rely on a home win in the last round as they knocked out Lugo, they too entered the round in the last 32 phase.
  • Of Barcelona’s six goals in the competition so far, Denis Suarez has netted two while Clement Lenglet, Munir, Malcom and Phillipe Coutinho have all got one each.
  • Levante have scored just one fewer and it’s former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral who has the most with two. Erick Cabacko, Coke and Raphael Dwamena have the others.

HEAD TO HEAD

Levante will actually take some confidence from their recent meetings with Barcelona as they have won two of the last four in all competitions. Although, in their last five visits to the Camp Nou, they have conceded a staggering 24 goals! There have been over 2.5 goals in nine of the last 10 meetings and Barcelona have scored three or more goals in eight of those.

BARCELONA NEWS

It’s imperative that Barcelona don’t suffer a shock defeat in the Copa del Rey as they hunt as many trophies as possible this season. They are without Samuel Umtiti and Rafinha for the clash.

SUMMARY

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Barcelona should cruise into the quarter-final in spite of the one-goal deficit and the recent meetings between the sides backs that up. Therefore, Barca to score 3+ goals and qualify for the next round should comfortably come in on Thursday night.
