In the final game of the Swiss Super League season, the title was won long ago and it will be going to Basel, who will be lifting the trophy after the game against St Gallen in front of their own fans. With a 17-point lead over Young Boys in 2nd, the title was secured several weeks ago and means Basel will have the chance to get into the Champions League group stage next season if they can get through the qualifying rounds. St Gallen are currently 7th in the table but they can climb to 6th with a win against Basel.
There hasn’t been a draw between Basel and St Gallen in the last 10 meetings and St Gallen have only won 2 of the 10, one of which was a friendly. Basel have won all 3 matches against St Gallen this season and the most recent one back in April ended 3-0 to Basel.

A win isn’t vital for Basel in the final fixture of the season but it would be good for them to end the season on a high note in front of their fans before lifting the trophy for the 8th season in a row. Kevin Bua, Davide Calla and Djordje Nikolic are all set to miss the final game through injury.

As St Gallen can still move up a place in the table, a win over Basel could turn a disappointing season into a decent one. Sejad Salihovic and Nzuzi Toko are both out injured which could potentially hurt their chance of coming away with all 3 points.

With a party atmosphere at St. Jakob-Park, Basel will certainly be favourites heading into the last game of the season. The hosts will want to go out with a bang and could end up putting a few goals past St Gallen. St Gallen still have something to play for but Basel should have too much quality for them and Basel are fully expected to come away from the game with their 26th win of the season.
