As the international break takes over from the fixtures in Europe’s biggest leagues, the attention turns towards the lower leagues as football fans look for their fill of the weekend action. With very little involvement in the international matches, it’s business as usual for League 1 sides and two of this season’s strongest teams face off on Tuesday night. Rotherham United make the trip to Bradford City as both sides look to move into the automatic promotion places. The hosts are currently third, seven points off the top of the table while the visitors are seventh, on the cusp of a play-off position.

STATS

  • Despite being third in the table, the results Bradford have picked up would suggest they haven’t had as a good a start as the table shows. With three draws and four losses from their opening 16, they are probably lucky to be so high but they are doing well nevertheless. They’ve only won two of their last four in the league, including a decent 1-0 victory over Portsmouth in their last match.
  • Rotherham have done well to be so close to the play-off place at this stage of the season but with seven losses in 16 games, they could find themselves in freefall with a run of poor results. Only Bristol Rovers have drawn fewer games in League 1 than The Millers as they have picked up a single point just once this term. They were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Gillingham in their last game.
  • Charlie Wyke has been good in front of goal for Bradford this season and with seven goals, he is their leading goal scorer.
  • Rotherham currently have League 1’s leading scorer in their side as Kieffer Moore has scored at least two more goals than any other player with 12 goals.

HEAD TO HEAD

Due to the fluctuation in which divisions these two sides have been playing in the last few years, their meetings have been few and far between. However, Bradford went on a run between 2011 and 2013 where they won six consecutive matches against Rotherham. The last fixture between the two in September ended 1-0 to Bradford, thanks to a goal from Romain Vincelot.

BRADFORD NEWS

Without any major injury worries, this is a great chance for the hosts to close the gap between themselves and top two, Shrewsbury and Wigan. Although, Charlton are a place below them, level on points, with a game-in-hand.

ROTHERHAM NEWS

A win for Rotherham in this one could see them go fifth but it won’t be easy, especially away from home. Like their opponents, they don’t have anyone on the injury table and will be reliant on their deadly talisman, Moore, to provide them with some magic.

SUMMARY

Due to the atmosphere created by the home fans at any level of English football, it makes it much harder for the visiting team to come away with all three points. This is no different for Rotherham as they will struggle against a stronger side away from home. A narrow Bradford win is expected by the visitors certainly shouldn’t be ruled out as they tend to play well on the counter-attack.
