European leagues are drawing to a close over the next week or so and the Danish Superliga Championship Round has just two matchweeks left. The biggest game of the season takes place on Monday night as the top two sides go head-to-head. League leaders, Brondby, take on 2nd-placed Midtjylland in the penultimate game of the season.

  • It’s been another great campaign for Brondby and one that should bring them yet another title. They have lost just twice in their 34 games and are currently on a run of 28 unbeaten in the league, a staggering record that goes back to August. They won the DBU Pokalen on Thursday after beating Silkeborg 3-1 in the final.
  • Midtjylland have also enjoyed a good season and they deserve massive credit for keeping up with the league leaders and being in with a chance of winning the title with two games left. Their only two losses in their last 26 games came against their upcoming opponents so they’ll be desperate to end that run on Monday.
  • Kamil Wilczek has been Brondby’s main man in front goal this term with 14 goals, vital contributions towards their title push.
  • Midtjylland’s joint leading marksman is Paul Onuacho who has 10 league goals. The other two players with that total are Alexander Sorloth and Marc Dal Hende.

Brondby’s form against Midtjylland is brilliant and certainly doesn’t make good reading for the visitors. In their three previous meetings this season, Brondby have won all three and scoring seven in the process. Midtjylland’s last victory over the title favourites came just over a year ago as they managed to run out 4-2 winners. There has been four wins for Brondby for every one win for Midtjylland in this fixture so maybe that means the underdogs are due a win on Monday.

With their much superior goal difference, three points for the hosts would see them pretty much secure the title as they would go six points clear with just two games remaining. They must watch the threat of their opponents’ forward line.

A win for Midtjylland on Monday evening wouldn’t even give them the advantage in the title race. However, it would give them more momentum heading into the final two matches. With a strong goal-scoring attack, they will need to break down Brondby’s tight backline.

This has all the makings of a great game at the top of the Danish Superliga with both sides desperate to win, Midtjylland in particular. Despite the visitors’ higher desperation to win, it is Brondby who are considered favourites as they have a stronger squad and are playing on their own turf, where they are so tough to beat.
