The league leaders travel to Celta Vigo hoping to avenge the Copa Del Rey hurt inflicted by the hosts only a couple of weeks ago. Real Madrid will look to add to their 4-point lead at the top of La Liga in match week 21 against 8th placed Celta Vigo. Real Madrid currently have a 4-point lead on Barcelona at the league’s summit as well as a game in-hand.

  • Celta Vigo have experienced some mixed form in the league recently as they’ve won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6 league games. Their focus is certainly on their impressive Copa Del Rey run they find themselves on as they knocked out Real Madrid in the quarter-final and are now looking to beat Alaves to reach the final.
  • Real Madrid have been in imperious form so far this season and until a few weeks ago, they were on a 40-game unbeaten run, which was eventually ended by a 2-1 defeat away at Sevilla. They’re on a run of 10 league wins in 12 games, with one draw coming against Barcelona at the Nou Camp and one loss against Sevilla.
  • Now it may come as a surprise that Iago Aspas is Celta Vigo’s leading scorer in the league this season with 11 goals, only Suarez, Messi and Ronaldo have more! The pint-sized forward has been in great form and will look to add to the goal he scored against Los Blancos in their last meeting.
  • It will come as no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s talisman this season and with 13 goals in the league, if Real Madrid win at the weekend, there’s no doubt he’ll be involved in the goal/s.

Real Madrid have unsurprisingly dominated recent fixtures with Celta Vigo and of the last 11, Celta Vigo have won 2 and drawn 1 while Madrid have won the rest. However, in the last two meetings, Celta Vigo picked up a win and a draw, giving them some hope going into this one.

Head to head matches: Celta de Vigo - Real Madrid

25.01.2017 Copa Celta de Vigo Real Madrid 2:2
18.01.2017 Copa Real Madrid Celta de Vigo 1:2

Celta Vigo will be hoping to cause another major upset against the superstars of Real Madrid and with the recent results against them, they certainly have a chance. They have nearly a full team available for selection, but the absence of Daniel Wass is a big one as he was instrumental in their win against Zinedine Zidane’s men. Goalkeeper, Ruben Blanco, will also miss this one through a muscular strain.

18.01.2017 Copa Real Madrid Celta de Vigo 1:2 W

Real Madrid will be desperate to avenge the defeat they suffered against Celta Vigo in the Copa Del Rey but with so many injuries, Zidane has limited options at his disposal for the clash. Gareth Bale is in line to return soon but this one is a step too far, Pepe, James Rodriguez, Daniel Carvajal, Luka Modric and Marcelo will all be sorely missed as they are all big players who would be in and around the starting XI.

It would be silly to say Real Madrid aren’t massive favourites for this fixture but with several key players missing out through injury as well as the lack of results against Celta Vigo recently, the fans and players of Celta Vigo must fancy themselves to pick up at least a draw as the league leaders come to town.
