As the Premier League returns for another action-packed season, there are several teams in the running for the title. One of those sides is last campaign’s champions, Chelsea, as they look to retain their trophy and their opening fixture, is at Stamford Bridge where they welcome relegation candidates Burnley. The Clarets had a decent season last time out with a 16th-place finish as their supreme home form kept them in the division. They’ll be hoping for a better finish this term and a shock win against the champions would start it off perfectly.
Needless to say that this is a fixture that has been dominated by Chelsea in recent years as the Blues haven’t been beaten by Burnley since 1973 and have won four of the last six meetings. Both teams have scored in four of the last five games so the Clarets haven’t struggled for goals.
While it should be a routine victory for Antonio Conte’s side, they are without star man, Eden Hazard for the clash as he picked up an ankle injury while on international duty. New addition, Tiemoué Bakayoko won’t feature as he hasn’t partaken in a full training session yet while Victor Moses is suspended for a red card in the FA Cup final.

It is very unlikely that Burnley will take anything from this match but with a fully available squad, they have the best possible chance as they will ever have. The recent departure of Gray will have disrupted their preparation but Dyche should be able to cover the void left by the Englishman.

Chelsea are fully expected to take all three points from their first game of the 2017/18 season whilst any positive result for Burnley would be huge. Even though they have a few big players missing, the Blues should have no worries dispatching Burnley in this one and it could be a game that gets out of hand very quickly. Expect a comfortable Chelsea win.
