The 2018/19 Serie A season has just passed its halfway stage and the rest of the campaign looks to be as exciting as ever. Following Lazio’s win on Thursday night, Roma travel outside the capital as they visit Chievo.

  • Chievo have absolutely awful this season and with just nine points, they are stuck at the bottom of the table with nine points separating them from safety. Almost half of their tally has come in their last four matches as they have beaten Frosinone and drawn with Empoli since Christmas Day.
  • Roma haven’t exactly had a campaign to remember so far as they sit 7th outside of the European places. However, there are only three points between them and the top four following their run of three wins in their last five. They had to come from behind last time out as they drew 1-1 with AC Milan.
  • The goals haven’t been free-flowing for Chievo but they’ve been shared amongst the squad. Their joint top scorers are Sergio Pellissier and Mariusz Stepinski with four goals.
  • Stephan El Shaarawy has been Roma’s leading marksman this term with seven goals followed surprisingly by Aleksandar Kolarov who has five.

It will come as little shock that Roma have dominated the recent meetings against Chievo as they haven’t been beaten by them since 2012, a run spanning 12 league games. Although, Roma have won just one of their last four away matches against the relegation-threatened side. Six of the last seven meetings have seen over 2.5 goals with both teams scoring in five of those.

A very unlikely win for Chievo wouldn’t see them move off the bottom of the table but they would take a step towards safety. Andrea Seculin and top scorer Pellissier will miss out through injury as Nenad Tomovic faces a late fitness test.

The visitors would go into 4th if they were to win ahead of the weekend’s fixtures but may lose ground if they fail to pick up all three points. Lorenzo Pellegrini is suspended while Cengiz Under and William Bianda are both injured.

Even though Roma might not have been in top form so far this term, they should more than enough to overcome bottom club Chievo on Thursday. It’s a fixture that usually produces goals which is why backing Roma to win and over 2.5 goals might be wise.
