Las Palmas UD

It isn’t long until the fixture list starts to congest heading into the winter break in La Liga so it is vital that teams get a good run of form going into this hectic period. With plenty of league games, it is easy for teams to be distracted away from the cup competitions but Las Palmas can’t allow that to happen as they travel to A Coruña in the Copa del Rey last 32. The first leg of the two-legged affair is one of five matches in the cup on Thursday night.
This fixture will be the first time the sides have met in the Copa del Rey but they have met on 12 occasions in the Primera and Segunda divisions. Las Palmas have won just three of these meetings while Deportivo lead with eight wins. The last time the sides faced each other in May last season, Deportivo came out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Andone.
A win for Deportivo could inspire them to do well in this season’s cup competition but they have several injuries worries going into the match. Carles Gil has been ruled out with a groin injury while Adrian and Juan Lamas are set for late fitness tests. Gerard Valentin and Borja Galan will make their way back into the squad.

Progression to the next round of the Copa del Rey would be a good confidence booster for Las Palmas in the league but they are up against it with some injured key men. Alen Haliliovic and Oussama Tannane definitely won’t feature while Remy is a major doubt. One positive is Sergi Samper’s return to training.

A cup match between two sides who would much prefer three points in the league doesn’t provide a great spectacle but this could see a goal-fest. There have been nine goals in the last three matches between the sides so this fixture does produce goals. It is Deportivo who are expected to score more in front of their home fans but a fired up Las Palmas side could put up a strong fight.
