The international break has returned and it is disrupting European football at the highest level. However, the Scottish Championship hasn’t been put on hold as Dundee United and Ross County meet on Tuesday in a top of the table clash.

  • Dundee United are currently 2nd in the table and fighting for promotion to the Scottish top-flight. They lead the way in the play-off race but have an 11-point lead to make up to the league leaders. They’ve lost just once in their last five in the league and are doing well to keep some kind of pressure on the leaders. However, they were beaten 2-1 by Partick Thistle last time out.
  • Ross County are enjoying a fantastic season and look very much as though they will be playing Premiership football next term. Their form has been exemplary in recent weeks and months as they have picked up maximum points in their last eight games with 24 points. They survived a late scare in their last game as they beat Falkirk 2-1 at home.
  • Pavol Safranko has been United’s leading scorer this season and only four players in the league have more than his nine goals.
  • One of those is Billy McKay who has scored an impressive 17 goals, keeping him in the race for the Golden Boot.

There have been plenty of meetings between these sides in recent seasons and they have been relatively even. Of the last five in all competitions, Dundee United have won three while Ross County have two victories and two of those games have seen over 5.5 goals. There have been three or more goals in four of the last five meetings, the only one which had fewer was the last one back in November where United won 1-0 away from home.

The hosts’ chances of winning the league rest on this match as they must win to have a chance of the title. The lead will still be at a comfortable eight points if they do win the match.

The away side can take a huge step towards lifting the title with three points on Tuesday. It will still be very much in their hands if they fail to win.

In the form they are in, it is hard to see past a Ross County victory even though they are playing away from home. Excluding the last one, the meetings tend to produce plenty of goals so backing over 2.5 seems like good value. If you also think Ross County will come away with the points, it is worth backing them to win whilst also conceding.
