The Premier League’s notoriously busy schedule is well underway and after a hectic Saturday, there is more action on Sunday as Tottenham make the trip up north to face Everton.

  • Everton have enjoyed a strong first half of the 2018/19 season but after Saturday’s fixtures, they have slipped down to 11th in the table. They have only won one of their last five, a win that came against Cardiff back in November. They did come up against the champions last time out and were beaten 3-1 at the Etihad following disappointing draws against Newcastle and Watford.
  • Tottenham have been brilliant in the league this term and they might still be in the title race in spite of Manchester City and Liverpool’s great form. Since their derby day loss to Arsenal, they have won each of their last three games in the league as well as qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages and the Carabao Cup semi-final. They squeezed past Burnley in their last Premier League match, winning 1-0.
  • Richarlison has been a revelation since signing for Everton and with eight goals since his move, he is the Toffees’ leading scorer.
  • Harry Kane has yet again shown his prolificity in front of goal and has gone one better than the Brazilian, scoring nine goals as only Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have more.

Everton aren’t able to take any confidence from their recent form against Tottenham as they haven’t beaten the North London side in over six years. In the 11 meetings since, five have ended as draws while Spurs have won the other six, including each of the last three. The last time they faced off was almost a year ago in a game where Tottenham ran out 4-0 winners. Those last three wins have all produced over 2.5 goals and the way they’re playing right now, this game could be a classic.

After falling behind their direct rivals, Everton can go back to 8th in the table with an unlikely victory. Although, they are potentially going to be lacking options in midfield as both Andre Gomes and Idrissa Gueye are expected to miss out.

Man City’s loss against Crystal Palace has provided Tottenham the chance to move within two points of them with a win. They have four key players unavailable as Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele will all watch on from the sidelines.

Despite playing away from home, Spurs are certainly favourites and they should be comfortable in the way they win, winning by at least two goals on Merseyside. Everton will be hoping to score but Tottenham are resolute at the back so a clean sheet for the visitors is a real possibility.
