With just 3 games of the 2016/17 Serie A season left to play, there’s still everything to play for at both ends of the table. One team involved in the end of season drama is Lazio, who sit in 4th currently occupying a Europa League place. With 3 wins in their last 3, they might have a chance of a Champions League if Napoli slip up as they are currently 7 points behind. Fiorentina could also sneak into the Europe as they are 3 points away from the final Europa League spot.

STATS

  • Fiorentina could already be in a Europa League place with better recent form but with just 1 win in their last 5, they’ve given themselves a mountain to climb with just 3 games left of the season. A disappointing 2-2 draw with Sassuolo in their last outing means they need 3 wins from 3 to give them a realistic chance of European football next season.
  • Lazio have given themselves the best chance of European football next season with brilliant recent form. With 4 wins in their last 5, there’s not much more they could’ve done but the teams above them have been in similar form. They were involved in a 10-goal thriller in their last game as they beat Sampdoria 7-3!
  • Nikola Kalinic has been in great form for Fiorentina this season and with 14 goals, he’s their top scorer in the league this season. If he was to add to this against Lazio, it’d give them a great chance of victory.
  • Ciro Immobile has been Lazio’s main threat in front of goal this season, and with 22 goals he’s 6th on the top goal scorer charts for Serie A. Keita Balde Diao has been in inspired form in the last few games with 6 goals in his last 3 games.

HEAD TO HEAD

Lazio have won this fixture 5 out of the last 6 meetings with Fioretina winning the other one. The game back in December ended 3-1 to Lazio and there have been more than 2.5 goals on all 4 of the last 4 occasions.

FIORENTINA NEWS

It’ll be tough for Fiorentina to get anything from the game but with their sights set firmly on European football, it might be enough for them to snatch a huge win. Lazio are devastating going forward so they’ll have to be disciplined at the back but without Gonzalo Rodriguez in the centre of defence, they might struggle. It’ll take a massive tem effort for them to take all 3 points.

LAZIO NEWS

A win for Lazio might mean nothing in terms of Champions League qualification as Napoli are just one win away from confirming their place. A win for Lazio is still vital and if they can take as many points as possible from their last 3 games, they won’t finish any lower than 4th, which is a great finish nonetheless. Their first choice keeper, Federico Marchetti will see out the rest of the season with injury so Thomas Strakosha will take his place, as he has done for most of the season.

SUMMING UP!

Lazio head into the match as favourites but it certainly won’t be plain sailing as both teams have something still to play for. If Lazio get an early goal, like they have done consistently in their last few games, it could be a huge Lazio win but the key for Fiorentina will be to stay tight at the back and hope to snatch a goal on the break. It should a nervy, low-scoring game due to both teams desperately not wanting to lose.
