The return of international football is the talk of the football world at the moment but before it commences, there are still domestic fixtures to be played. Tuesday night brings the final game in matchweek 21 in the Swedish Superettan as Gefle host Orgryte.

  • Gefle will struggle to claw themselves out of the relegation battle they find themselves in after 20 games. With just 14 points, they are six points adrift of safety and five points away from a relegation play-off. With them currently bottom of the table, they will be automatically relegated but if they move up two places then they’ll have a chance of safety. They’ve won just one of their last 16 league matches.
  • Orgryte have had a better season than their upcoming opponents and currently sit mid-table without any real chance of promotion or relegation. They’ve won just one of their last 14 in the league after a blistering and at one point, they looked as though they might challenge for promotion to the Allsvenskan. They haven’t kept a clean sheet for five games in all competitions.
  • Adam Bergmark Wilberg is Gefle’s leading goalscorer in the league with six goals, his team-mates have struggled to find the net with such consistency.
  • Orgryte’s top scorer in the Superettan has just one more than that total with eight. The man with the goals is Diego Montiel.

The last three meetings between these two sides have all come within the last two seasons in the Superettan. Gefle haven’t won in any of the fixtures and Orgryte have come away with two victories, including the earlier one this campaign. Despite going into half-time at 1-1, the hosts on the day won 3-1 to pile more misery on the visitors. Both teams have scored in two of the three games and there have been over 2.5 goals just once.

The hosts can’t move up the table with three points but they can pull further away from the bottom of the table. A win would take them two points away from the automatic relegation places.

A chance of promotion might be a long way off for the visitors but a win would increase their already-high chances of staying in the league. They’ll be confident of taking at least a point.

Despite having home advantage, Gefle are the underdogs in Tuesday’s clash as Orgryte go into the match with much better form. It should be a low-scoring and a one-goal lead could nick all three points, although the visitors haven’t kept a clean sheet in over a month so the home side might get a goal. The most likely outcome in an away win to nil.
