In a weekend of La Liga action that saw Lionel Messi rescue Barcelona from losing their unbeaten record against Sevilla, there’s still time for another match on Monday evening as Getafe and Betis face off in the final game of matchweek 30. The visitors still have an outside chance of making the Europa League places as they sit 8th while Getafe are 10th, slightly too far from challenging for the same goal.

  • Getafe will be satisfied with the fact that they’re inside the top half of La Liga at this stage of the season. Their form hasn’t been too bad recently as they have won three and lost three of their last six matches after a run of four consecutive draws (one coming against Barcelona). They managed to come back from a goal down last time out against Real Sociedad, eventually winning 2-1.
  • Real Betis have had a good campaign so far and the fact that they can still compete for a European place will be motivation to finish the season strongly. This has reflected in their recent form as they have won three of their last five, losing just once. A win on Monday would make it three on the bounce, the last one was a very comfortable 3-0 victory against Espanyol.
  • Angel Rodriguez has had a brilliant season so far for Getafe and with 12 goals in the league, he is their leading scorer.
  • Sergio Leon holds that title for Real Betis currently with nine goals, a decent record for someone who has struggled with injuries this term.

Neither side has dominated recent meetings with two wins apiece in the last five meetings. Before this season’s draw, the home team had won each of the four match-ups, which is a good omen for Getafe in this one. In the fixture back in November, Getafe were looking as though they’d secure all three points away from home with a 2-0 half-time lead but Betis managed to come back to draw 2-2. This was one of three games in the last five where both teams scored.

A win for Getafe would see them move into 9th and within a point of their opponents. They’ll welcome the return of Mathieu Flamini to training this week as Mauro Arambarri misses out with a broken foot.

A huge away victory for Betis would take them into the guaranteed European places in 6th as they would leapfrog Sevilla due to a superior goal difference. This could be Antonio Sanabria’s first match since the start of January when he picked up an injury, he’ll be involved in the matchday squad.

It’s so hard to split two sides who couldn’t have been closer in recent meetings but with Getafe playing on home soil, they have to be considered as slight favourites. However, Real Betis will be expecting to take another three points and they can really stamp themselves as Europa League candidates.
