The 2018/19 Serie A season is well underway and there’s a midweek treat this week with one fixture on Tuesday, seven on Wednesday and two on Thursday. The match on Tuesday sees Inter host Fiorentina in what should be a great game.

  • After securing a return to the Champions League last term, Inter’s start to the new campaign has been relatively slow. They sit 9th after five games where they’ve won two, lost two and drawn one, they managed to pick up three points last time out against Sampdoria with a late 1-0 win. This came on the back of their huge Champions League comeback against Tottenham where they scored two goals in the last 10 minutes to win 2-1.
  • Fiorentina have had a great start to the season and they are 3rd in the table going into the match. They have won three, drawn one and lost a game with the loss coming against Napoli who still look strong despite the departure of Maurizio Sarri. They were convincing in their last match, beating SPAL 3-0 at home after other wins against Chievo and Udinese.
  • On the back of a brilliant World Cup campaign, Ivan Perisic has started well for Inter with two goals and one assist after five games.
  • Marco Benassi has been impressive in Fiorentina’s start to the season and with three goals, he is their current leading scorer.

Fiorentina’s recent record against Inter is actually quite good as they have won five of the last eight meetings against them. However, they didn’t manage to beat them last term as Inter won 3-0 on home soil followed by a 1-1 in Florence. In this fixture in the 2016/17 campaign, Fiorentina ran out 5-4 winners after six second-half goals. There have been over 2.5 goals in five of the last six meetings and both teams have scored in five of the last six.

A win for Inter will take them inside the top five ahead of Thursday’s fixtures and a big win would take them above Fiorentina into 3rd. Sime Vrsaljko has returned to training following a knee injury so he could feature.

The visitors can overtake Napoli in 2nd on Tuesday night with a win and as they have no injury worries, they have a good chance of picking up a result at the San Siro.

With home advantage, Inter should be big favourites but Fiorentina’s good start to the season gives them a chance of getting a result. With two strong attacking line-ups, I’d expect both teams to score and over 2.5 goals. For a longer odds tip, have a go at Inter to win and both teams to score but Fiorentina aren’t in bad form.
