It’s the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final and after Juventus’ 2-0 win in the first-leg in Monaco, the visitors have it all to do on Tuesday night. In the first-leg at the Stade Louis II, Juventus defended brilliantly and scored 2 devastating away goals on the counter-attack. Monaco had several chances from set-pieces but ultimately failed as Gianluigi Buffon showed that age definitely is just a number. It was Higuain who was the man of the moment as he scored both goals.

  • Although Juventus have been brilliant in the Champions League this season, their Serie A form has suffered recently. While they’re top of the table, they’ve drawn both of their last games and have concede in both games, which may give some hope to Monaco.
  • It looks as though Monaco will be Ligue 1 champions at the end of the season but they need to take their free-scoring form into the second-leg of this tie if they are to go through. They need to score at least 2 to have any chance of going through and Juventus haven’t conceded 2 goals in a single Champions League game this season.
  • Gonzalo Higuain’s 2 goals in the first-leg may have put the tie beyond Monaco and another couple from the Argentine in the second-leg will surely send Juventus into their second final in 3 years.
  • Kylian Mbappe started the first-leg very strongly and forced a brilliant save from Buffon but he was almost non-existent in the second half and he could be vital for Monaco’s hopes if he plays like he did in the other knockout matches.

Monaco are still yet to beat Juventus in their 3 meetings as Juventus have won 2 while the other ended goalless. They’ll need to make this game their first victory over Juve if they are to get themselves into the final. Juventus have kept a clean sheet on all 3 occasions.

Juventus will fully expect to get themselves into the final in Cardiff at the end of this month with a professional job against Monaco in this second-leg. Without any injuries or suspensions, their chances are increased massively. It shouldn’t be too hard for them to defend their lead but their defenders will have to be on their game as an early goal for Monaco could completely change their game plan.

Monaco will definitely struggle to overturn the two-goal deficit especially if they concede as it will mean they need 4 goals against a Juventus who are known for their defensive solidarity. Although Monaco have no new injuries themselves giving them a chance of playing with their strongest team in such a tough game. An early goal will be vital, which the have shown they can do as they’ve averaged just over 3 goals per game.

Juventus are huge favourites of going through to the final but Monaco might be able to snatch a win on the night. If they can stay defensively sound, Monaco might be able to defy the odds and get through but they’ll need more than a hint of good fortune. It’s definitely Juventus’ semi-final to lose.
