With just 4 games left of the 2016/17 Serie A, Torino make the short trip across the city to face Juventus in the second Turin derby of the season. The hosts could win the league title with victory over Torino if Roma fail to win and with a 9-point advantage over Roma with 4 games left, they have pretty much wrapped up the title already. Torino are sitting in 9th with little to play for other than local pride, of course.

STATS

  • Juventus are unbeaten in the league in 16 games going all the way back to the middle of January. They’ve won 3 of their last 5 league games with their sole focus being on the Champions League after running away with the league. They drew 2-2 away at Atalanta in their last league fixture.
  • Torino haven’t lost in their last 6 games and with 2 wins and 4 draws, they certainly haven’t been easy opposition to come up against. An unlucky 1-1 draw with Sampdoria, where they should have took all 3 points, was their last fixture and they wouldn’t silencing their neighbours with another draw.
  • Big money signing, Gonzalo Higuain, is Juventus’ top goal scorer in the league this season which comes as no surprise due to his razor-sharp finishing ability. His 23 goals put him 4th on the race for the golden boot.
  • On the 3 players with more goals plays for Torino and with 25 league goals, there isn’t a single player in Serie A with more goals than Andrea Belotti. At just 23, there are several of Europe’s big clubs vying for his signature.

HEAD TO HEAD

Torino have only won on 1 occasion against Juventus in 22 years and now would be a better time than any to get another derby-day win. Juventus have scored 11 goals against their rivals in the last 3 meetings. The last time they met in December, Juve won 3-1.

JUVENTUS NEWS

Juventus go into this match as huge favourites and if they win, they will have almost definitely secured the league title along with a place in the Champions League final if they can avoid defeat in the second-leg of their tie with Monaco. With a fully available squad, they shouldn’t face any problems and they may rest some players with the second-leg against Monaco less than a week away.

TORINO NEWS

The onlt thing at stake for Torino in this derby is the bragging rights and local pride if they do manage to win but other than that, the game doesn’t have any real use for them. Lorenzo De Silvestri is looking like he might return but he probably won’t be risked due to the lack of importance of the match.

SUMMING UP!

Juventus should come away with a comfortable win in front of their own fans against their local rivals. If they get a couple of first half goals, The Old Lady will probably take their collective foot off the gas so that they don’t waste valuable energy which might provide a route back into the match for Torino. With such a great defence, Juventus shouldn’t concede in this one and should have no problems with grabbing a few goals.
