After Liverpool and Man City confirmed their places in the Champions League quarter-final last week, Manchester United will be hoping to do the same in their second-leg with Sevilla. Tottenham crashed out at the hands of Juventus and United will be looking to avoid doing the same but after their poor 0-0 draw in the first-leg, it won’t be an easy game. David de Gea’s unbelievable point-blank save from Luis Muriel’s header kept the scores level as it looked for the world that the Colombian would break the deadlock.

STATS

  • Man United are back on the right track in the Premier League as they extended their lead in second place to five points over third-placed Liverpool, who were beaten 2-1 by the Red Devils on Saturday. They have won five of their seven UCL matches so far and need to make that six from eight to ensure safe passage into the next round. They have won all three of their home games in the competition up until this point.
  • Sevilla are struggling in their quest to secure Champions League football again next season as they are currently fifth with 11 points separating them and fourth-placed Valencia. They were beaten 2-0 at the weekend by the team above them in La Liga which has seen them lose even more ground. This means they’ve only won two of their last five, not the best form to take to Old Trafford.
  • As he is in the Premier League, Romelu Lukaku is the hosts’ leading scorer in the Champions League with four goals.
  • Wissam Ben Yedder might not be doing too well in La Liga but he’s been on fire in Europe and with six goals already, he will be looking to cause United major problems.

HEAD TO HEAD

The first-leg between the two sides was their first ever meeting in competition and it certainly wasn’t one to remember as neither team managed to take any kind of advantage into the second-leg. Sevilla’s last knockout run-in with an English was at this stage last season as they were dumped out by Leicester City as the unlikely quarter-finalists beat them 3-2 on aggregate. Man United made hard work of beating Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final last term, their last taste of Spanish opponents.

MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS

Nothing other than a win for Man United will do on Tuesday night as a score draw or a loss will send them crashing out. They are more than likely without Paul Pogba who missed Monday’s training while Anthony Martial and Ander Herrera are both also likely to miss out.

SEVILLA NEWS

Despite not scoring in the first-leg, Sevilla are in a decent position heading to Manchester as they know that a goal will make life difficult for the hosts. If they get the first goal, United must get two to have any chance of progression. They welcome Sebastien Corchia back into the squad for the trip.

SUMMARY

With the Old Trafford crowd behind them, Man United should have too much for Sevilla to handle as the visitors will look to attack on the counter. The Red Devils’ lack of away goals might come back to haunt them but they should be too good for their Spanish opponents.
