This weekend is one of big games across Europe and following the North London derby and El Clasico on Saturday, the biggest game in the Italian season takes place on Sunday as Napoli play host to champions Juventus.

  • Napoli have had a good campaign so far as they are almost guaranteed 2nd place but they will be disappointed that they haven’t been able to put more pressure on Juventus. They’ve lost just once in the league since September which is incredible but their slow start saw them lose too much ground on the unbeaten league leaders. They were convincing last time out as they beat Parma 4-0.
  • It seriously looks as though Juventus will finish the Serie A season unbeaten and their final proper task comes on Sunday. They have dropped points just three times this term and are a staggering 13 points clear at the top of the league. They have also conceded just 15 goals and are on a run of three consecutive clean sheets, including in their 1-0 win over Bologna last time out.
  • It’s not a big surprise to see Cristiano Ronaldo running the show in Italy and he is the league’s leading scorer with 19 goals. He has also chipped in with eight assists for his team-mates.
  • The formidable front three of Napoli from last season haven’t been as efficient this term. Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne both have eight goals but it is Arkadiusz Milik who leads the way for them with 14 in the league.

This fixture has been one that is hard to predict over the last few years but Juventus have been more dominant recently. They have won four of the last six meetings with one draw and one Napoli victory. The most recent one ended 3-1 to Juventus when the sides met in September, one of just three losses for Napoli this season. Only two of the last six have seen over 2.5 goals while both teams have scored in three of the six.

3rd-placed AC Milan are eight points behind Napoli in the table so a home win on Sunday would all-but confirm their place as runners up. They only have one absentee: Raul Albiol who isn’t expected to return until mid-April.

The main aim for Juventus in this one has to be to avoid defeat in order to preserve their unbeaten record. They will be without Sami Khedira and potentially Mehdi Benatia while Douglas Costa returned to training last week.

In the form Juventus have been in, it is so hard to see Napoli getting the win they need but the visitors aren’t nailed on as winners. It is a fixture that is historically low scoring with two strong defences which is why under 2.5 goals seems good value.
