The four sides going to the Nations League finals have already been deciding and one of those sides is in action on Tuesday. That team is Portugal and they face Poland in the final game of Group A3.

STATS

  • Portugal haven’t lost since their World Cup exit with three wins and two draws in their five matches. With seven points from their three Nations League matches, they have already booked their place at next summer’s finals. A win and draw against Italy along with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Poland has ensured they won’t miss out on their own tournament.
  • Poland, on the other hand, haven’t won since the World Cup, losing three and drawing two matches. They only have one point from their three Nations League fixtures which has condemned them to relegation down to League B. That draw came in the opening fixture against Italy where they were held to a 1-1 stalemate. They were beaten 1-0 by the Czech Republic last time out.
  • Of Portugal’s four Nations League goals, Andre Silva has two.
  • Poland have scored three but they’ve all come from different scorers.

HEAD TO HEAD

Portugal will take confidence from their recent record with Poland as they haven’t lost in any of the last four meetings. The last two have both ended with the Portuguese winning, one of which on penalties at Euro 2016. The two before that were both draws and Poland have never won in Portugal so they won’t feel confident of coming away with a win. Four of the last six have seen over 2.5 goals, both teams have scored in four of those.

PORTUGAL NEWS

Despite already winning the group, Portugal will want to go out on a high in front of their own fans. However, they are without Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva, two of their main goal threats.

POLAND NEWS

Poland’s fate has also been confirmed but they will be desperate to end their winless run. Robert Lewandowski will also want to end his goalless run, which stands at seven games on the international stage.

SUMMARY

Portugal are undoubtedly favourites to win this one but with them lacking cutting edge in their last couple of games, backing them to win and under 2.5 goals seem like a worthwhile bet. Unless Lewandowski finds his shooting boots, it looks as though Poland will struggle to score so a Portugal clean sheet might be good value.
