Spain
Kick-off

The Portugal vs. Spain match will be played on Friday, June 15, at the Olympic Stadium, Sochi. This is the derby match of group B, that might even decide the winner of the group.
Since 1921 when they played for the first time ever, these teams played 35 times against each other. Spain is way more successful with 17 wins, while Portugal has only six. Twelve games ended in a draw. However, in their last ten games, Spain recorded only two wins, Portugal won two matches, while five games ended in a draw. They played six times in the 21st century and we saw more than one goal only once - in a friendly match played 2010, Portugal defeated Spain by 4:0.
Portugal came to Russia as a reigning European champion. However, almost nobody puts them in the first row of favorites to win the title. On the other hand, nobody did that in France either, but they won it. It seems they are quite happy with the role given to them by the media and fans, and they will try to prove them wrong in the first match of the tournament, against Spain.

Spain came here as one of the biggest favorites for the title, but after a crisis that hit them in the last couple of days, nobody is sure what to expect from them. Zinedine Zidane surprisingly departed from Real Madrid, and the Royal club negotiated and eventually agreed terms with Spanish national team coach, Julen Lopetegui. That caused unrest within the Spanish camp and Spanish FA decided to sack Lopetegui only days before the start of World Cup! Fernando Hierro will act as their interim manager and we will see how the players will react to that change.

Spain was a favorite to win this match one week ago, but now, we don't know what to expect. Portugal is certainly strong enough to take advantage of this situation. We expect that both teams will score in this game.
