At this stage of the season, it is very surprising that the clash between PSG and Lille is a match between Ligue 1’s top two teams. However, the gap is eight points between the two sides.

STATS

  • PSG are the best performing team in Europe at the moment as they have set a new record by winning all of their opening 11 matches in the league. With 33 points after 11 games, it is hard to imagine them being caught even at this early point. They came through a tough test in their last match in the league, beating Marseille 2-0. Although, they are struggling in the Champions League where they sit 3rd in their group behind Liverpool and Napoli.
  • Lille have far exceeded expectations so far this term after only avoiding relegation by one point. They already have 25 points after 11 matches and look like serious contenders for a top four place. They have four wins from their last five games, form which has kept them in and around the top of the table, including an impressive 3-0 win against Marseille.
  • PSG have the two leading scorers in the French top-flight with Kylian Mbappe (10) and Neymar (9) firing on all cylinders.

Nicolas Pepe isn’t far behind the two of them as he has seven goals already. With five assists, only Mbappe has contributed to more goals in the league.

HEAD TO HEAD

PSG have a great recent record Lille, as they do against most of the sides in Ligue 1. They have won each of the last four meetings and Lille’s last victory in this fixture came in April 2012. The last three matches between the sides have produced over 2.5 goals with both teams scoring in two of those. The last meeting in February was comfortable for PSG as they ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Yuri Berchiche, Neymar and Giovani Lo Celso.

PSG NEWS

Three points for PSG would break yet another European record and would put them even further ahead at the top of the table. They are without Presnel Kimpembe who is suspended while Edinson Cavani and Dani Alves have both returned to training this week.

LILLE NEWS

An unlikely win for Lille would close the gap at the summit to five points but they are huge underdogs. They only have one absentee for the top of the table clash: Fares Bahlouli.

SUMMARY

In the eyes of many, there is only winner in this game and that’s PSG but you certainly shouldn’t write off Lille with their early season form. Backing both teams to score might be worth a punt with two of the three highest scoring sides in the league facing off with over 3.5 goals looking likely.
