Zinedine Zidane rotated his squad heavily for the 4-2 midweek win over Leganes. It kept Los Meringues two points clear of Barcelona, with a game in hand. The Frenchman is in the enviable position of having only Raphael Varane missing, with no fresh injuries reported. While the league title is no longer certain to be returning to this part of the Spanish capital after an absence of five years, it is still Real’s title to lose. Their recent form has been impressive. Last defeated at the Mestalla by Valencia in late February, they have won 7 of the last 8, including 6 on the bounce. The only concern will be keeping just 5 clean sheets in the 20 matches the club has played in 2017.
While it harsh to blame the goalkeeper, that record underlines why the club is keen to land either David De Gea or Thibault Courtois this summer.

Having struggled in the early part of the season, Atletico Madrid has found their form with a vengeance.
Diego Simeone’s men have lost 1 of their last 13 in all competitions, and not in La Liga since Barcelona won at the Vincent Calderon in February. Prior to that, November’s Madrid derby defeat was the last time they had suffered a loss.
It’s an impressive run of form but injuries are beginning to mount. Augusto Fernández, Tiago, Sime Vrsaljko, and, Miguel Ángel Moyá are all missing through injury while Kevin Gameiro and Nicolás Gaitán are both doubtful for the match. Fernando Torres will most likely lead the line but hope to avoid a repeat of his midweek miss!

While Atletico has the advantage in recent meetings at the Estadio de Santiago Bernabeu but Real must win this match to maintain their advantage at the top. With the first-choice strike force of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale all rested in midweek, Zinedine Zidane has a fully fit and potent attack at hand.
However, Diego Simeone, better than any manager in Europe’s top leagues, knows all about guerilla football. The Argentine’s team are renowned for their strong defence and while it crumbled at home, frustrating Real will give them as much pleasure as winning.
Even so, expect Real to take this one by a two-goal margin of victory.
