Rochdale welcome Millwall (and their infamous fans) to the Crown Oil Arena as both sides look to pursue their late pushes for a play-off spot. The visitors have been in a rich vein of form and they sit just 1 place outside the play-off positions with a couple of games in hand over the teams above. Rochdale sit 10th with only 7 points separating themselves and the play-offs, also with a couple of games in hand. This should be a great game between two sides hopeful of making the Championship.

  • Without a league defeat in 17 games, Millwall are certainly showing form of a team that should be in the play-offs after such an awful start to the season. And with 5 wins in their last 8, they’ll be hopeful of another win in the midweek fixture away at Rochdale.
  • Rochdale have only managed one league since the turn of the year and it has seen them slip from a play-off spot that they held down earlier in the season. However, this win did come in their last game where they put 4 goals past a struggling Gillingham side. They’ll be hoping to put back-to-back wins on the board for the first team this year.
  • Lee Gregory has been dangerous in front of goal this season and is currently Millwall’s top goal scorer in the league with 14 goals. His veteran strike partner, Steve Morison, has also looked goal in the penalty area scoring 10 league goals.
  • Another striker over 30 that hasn’t been bad this season is Ian Henderson, Rochdale’s leading goal scorer. His 10 league goals this season have made him a deadly asset for The Dale and the Millwall defenders will have to watch out for his movement.

In the 3 meetings between these two sides in the 21st century, Millwall have won on 2 of the occasions. However, it was Rochdale who came out winners in the return fixture earlier in the season as they won 3-2 at The Den. 2 of these games have seen more than 3 goals.

In Rochdale’s bid to win consecutive league matches since December 2016, their hopes will be boosted by the fact that they only have one player missing the match. Calvin Andrew is still serving his 12-match ban for a disgusting elbow on Peter Clarke back in November. They’ll hope to make a fully available squad count as they host the in-form team of League 1.

Millwall will want to make it 18 league games unbeaten as they make the trip North and Neil Harris will also be happy to know that to know that he also has a full squad available for the game. His side will be looking to move into the play-offs, which they will do with a win.

With the form they’re in, it would have to be a great performance for Rochdale to take all points against Millwall. However, after the 4-1 win in their last game, it’s certainly not out of reach for The Dale. Millwall will head into the fixture as favourites but will have to guard against complacency as Rochdale look to get their season back on track. The game could easily go either way but I think a draw is also a very likely outcome.
