With just two matchweeks left in the Serie A season, there’s a meeting between two Italian titans on Sunday afternoon. Roma, who are still in pursuit of a top-four place, face Juventus who are one point away from securing yet another title.

STATS

  • Roma have enjoyed a decent season which has not only taken them to 3rd in the league but also through to a Champions League semi-final. They’ve won four of their last five in the league and need just one more win to confirm a place in Europe’s elite competition. A narrow 1-0 away at Cagliari in their last outing was vital.
  • Juventus seemed as though they might be losing their grip on the title race when they were beaten by Napoli a few weeks ago but with two wins and a Coppa Italia final win since, they’re more than back on track. On Wednesday, they kept hopes of a double alive with a 4-0 battering of AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final.
  • Edin Dzeko started the season on fire and while his form may have slowed down, the Bosnian is still Roma’s leading scorer in the league this term.
  • Paulo Dybala has been even better in front of goal with 22 league goals and five assists, only Immobile and Icardi have more in Serie A.

HEAD TO HEAD

The recent meetings between these two sides have been very close and while Juventus have won three of the last five, each of those wins have been by a 1-0 scoreline. The reverse fixture this season ended that way with Mehdi Benatia’s goal being the difference. Although, Roma have won both of the last two meetings at the Stadio Olimpico, last season’s ended 3-1 to the Romans.

ROMA NEWS

It’s vital that Roma claim at least a point on Sunday to hold off the pressure from Lazio and Inter below them. Konstantinos Manolas may return for the clash as might Kevin Strootman, Diego Perotti and Gregoire Defrel.

JUVENTUS NEWS

A draw or a win will confirm a seventh consecutive Scudetto for Juventus on Sunday as they are currently six points clear of Napoli. They are in a prime position to take at least a point as they have no injury problems.

SUMMARY

With the title inches away from a return to Turin, it’s hard to see Juventus losing this one on Sunday. With Roma also desperate to take some points, a draw looks like the most likely outcome in this one. That would be a result that is good for both teams, cue the Juve title celebrations.
