The English football season is finally back this weekend and after Derby beat Reading 2-1 on Friday night, Saturday is shaping up to be a great day. One of the biggest fixtures in the Championship sees Sheffield United welcome relegated Swansea City to Brammal Lane.
It has been seven years since the two sides shared the same division so the most recent back in 2011 won’t be fresh in the memory of many fans. That one ended 4-0 to Swansea confirming Sheffield United’s relegation to League 1 and Swansea’s place in the play-offs which they went on to win. The Swans’ last win at Brammal Lane came in the FA Cup in 2007, they are still waiting for a league win in Sheffield.
The hosts have been dealt a tough start against a side still equipped for the top-flight. However, with just Jake Wright injured, they have a great chance of winning, Paul Coutts has also returned to training after recovering from the broken leg he suffered last November. It is vital that Swansea have a good opening few games if they are to mount a serious promotion challenge this season. Leroy Fer is definitely unavailable while Wilfried Bony and Mike van Der Hoorn are both doubts. Sam Clucas isn’t expected to feature as he is the subject of serious transfer interest from Burnley.

The Championship season is one that is highly anticipated all summer long and now it’s back, it looks as though it’ll be a cracking one. Sheffield United are actually slight favourites to beat Swansea on Saturday but the quality of the visitors must be considered as they still have plenty of Premier League-quality players in the squad. A draw looks a very likely outcome in this one and both teams should score.
