The introduction of the UEFA Nations League has brought a new identity to the international break and for many fans, it makes them seem less pointless. There’s a heavyweight clash on Monday as Spain host England in both sides’ third group match.
England won’t be able to take much confidence from their recent record with Spain as they have only beaten them once in their last seven meetings. The Spaniards have won on five occasions in that time and will be hopeful to make it six out of eight on Monday. After five matches where both teams and over 2.5 goals didn’t land, the last two have seen both with a 2-1 win for Spain and 2-2 draw. Rashford opened the scoring when they met just over a month ago but goals from Saul and Rodrigo secured a 2-1 win for Spain.
The big omissions from the Spanish squad for the match are Isco, Dani Carvajal, Sergi Roberto and Diego Costa who are all nursing injuries. Although, they should have more than enough quality to compensate.

Southgate must replace John Stones and Jordan Henderson as their bookings against Croatia mean that they are now suspended for the clash with Spain. This might make way for either Harry Winks or James Maddison in midfield, the latter would be making his debut.

Despite England getting further in the World Cup than Spain, it’s hard to see past the hosts winning this clash in Seville. The Three Lions haven’t looked in goal scoring form since the World Cup so it might be wise to back Spain to win to nil. Spain look formidable in front of goal so backing them to score over 1.5 goals is also a good shout.
