The return of English football has been widely welcomed after its summer break. Midweek Championship fixtures are back this week and Swansea face Leeds in one of the four fixtures on Tuesday.

  • Swansea had to accept relegation from the Premier League last season as they finished 18th, three points adrift from safety. They’ve started life in the second division quite well with seven points from their opening three games. They beat Sheffield United 2-1, beat Preston 1-0 then drew 0-0 with Birmingham, although none of which were particularly convincing performances.
  • Leeds have started life under Marco Bielsa in unbelievable fashion and it looks at this early stage as though they are the team to beat. This comes after they failed to break into the top half last term. They’ve played three and won three so far, beating Stoke 3-1. Derby 4-1 and Rotherham 2-0, they’re the only side with a 100% record in the Championship.
  • Swansea look like they’ll struggle for goals this term with just three after three games. Oliver McBurnie, Yan Dhanda and Jay Fulton have a goal each so far.
  • Kemar Roofe has scored the largest proportion of Leeds’ nine league goals with three, including a brace away at Derby.

Due to the two sides not playing in the same league for a number of years, there isn’t much of a recent history between the sides. The last meeting came in February 2011 where Swansea were 3-1 winners at home, following Leeds’ 1-0 home win in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign. Leeds’ last win away at Swansea came back in 1964 so they’ll be hoping to reset that record.

A strong performance from Swansea is important as it would show that they have the potential to challenge for the title. Declan John has returned to training this week after a back injury while Wilfried Bony and Kristoffer Nordfeldt remain sidelined with injuries.

Another three points for Leeds would further strengthen their current strong grip on the Championship. They only have Stuart Dallas unavailable through injury who is expected to come back by the end of next week.

Following their brilliant early season form, Leeds are slight favourites heading into this one despite being away from home. The visitors are expected to score at least two goals while Swansea should be able to get on the scoresheet at home, therefore, Leeds to win and both teams to score seems good value for this one.
