Following one of the most devastating weekends in Premier League history, the action must still go ahead on Monday night. Two top-flight heavyweights clash as Manchester City make the trip to the capital to face Tottenham.

  • Spurs are seen by many to be struggling this season but their position in the league would suggest otherwise. They are 5th with seven wins and two losses after nine games and can go above Man City into 3rd if they manage to beat them. They faltered late on once again in the Champions League in midweek as they threw away a lead to draw 2-2 with PSV following two 1-0 league wins.
  • Man City haven’t been as good this term as they were in their Premier League domination last season. They are still unbeaten after nine games with seven wins and two draws but those stalemates against Wolves and Liverpool have allowed the latter to put significant pressure on at the top. They beat Shakhtar 3-0 in midweek following a 5-0 battering of Burnley last weekend.
  • Harry Kane has continued his strong goalscoring form this season following his Golden Boot at the World Cup. He is Spurs’ leading scorer with five goals.
  • Only Eden Hazard and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have netted more goals than Sergio Aguero this term, the Argentine has six in the league.

Tottenham will take confidence from their recent record against Man City, which is better than most other teams in the Premier League. Of the last five meetings, both teams have come out on top twice with a draw coming in January 2017. Although, the Citizens did win both fixtures last term with a convincing 3-1 win at Wembley one of the highlights of a fantastic campaign. There have been over 2.5 goals in five of the last six matches with both teams scoring in each of those.

Three points for Spurs will take them 3rd in the league but they are likely to be without Danny Rose and Dele Alli as well as Jan Vertonghen. They have coped with those absentees in recent weeks, they’ll be hoping to do the same again.

Man City will return to the Premier League summit with a win and they only have Danilo and Ilkay Gundogan out of action, whom can both be replaced.

Despite having home advantage, Tottenham go into this one as underdogs against the strongest side in recent top-flight history. However, I’d expect both teams to score which could be the best tip for the match. Based on both thoughts, Man City to win and both teams to score seems like a smart bet.
