After another weekend of entertaining Premier League action, attention turns towards Wembley on Monday where Tottenham and Watford meet. The hosts are in 4th with Chelsea breathing down their necks while the visitors are safe in 13th.

STATS

  • Tottenham have a had a season of mixed feelings with a top-four finish far from wrapped up with just four games remaining. They’ve failed to win either of their last two league games after a run of six consecutive wins which has put their final position in doubt. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Brighton in their last league outing and failed to reach the FA Cup final last week after a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United.
  • Watford fans will be happy that they’re not going down but they could’ve achieved more this term. Their recent form has been reflected by the fact that they’re staying up as they are without a win in their last six matches. A goalless draw last time out against Crystal Palace was particularly boring.
  • Harry Kane has had another great season in front of goal with 26 goals. Only Mo Salah has more Premier League goals and it looks as though the Egyptian will win the Golden Boot.
  • Watford have struggled for goals this term and it is Abdoulaye Doucoure who is their leading scorer with seven goals, he’s had a brilliant season.

HEAD TO HEAD

The head-to-head record between these two London clubs doesn’t look good for Watford. The last time the Hornets beat Spurs was in 1987 and they have been beaten in nine of the 13 meetings since. Watford came close to beating them when they met in December, drawing 1-1 against a 10-man Tottenham side. Watford have scored just twice in their five away visits to Spurs since the beginning of the Premier League era.

TOTTENHAM NEWS

This has turned into a must-win game for Spurs with Chelsea just two points behind. Danny Rose and Harry Winks are still both injured and the latter isn’t expected to feature for the remainder of the campaign.

WATFORD NEWS

Watford are on the beach in many ways and this game holds no real meaning other than preserving pride. Gerard Deulofeu may return to the side as will Troy Deeney. Roberto Pereyra faces a late fitness test and Stefano Okaka is out for the rest of the season.

SUMMARY

With Watford having nothing to fight for at this late stage of the season, this game favours Tottenham massively and it could be a huge win for the North London side. The importance of this game has been increased as a result of Chelsea’s win on Saturday but Spurs should rise to the challenge and come away with a vital three points.
