With less than two weeks before Europe’s major leagues get underway, there is a full list of Champions League second round qualifiers still be played to determine which sides make it into the final round. Trnava will be confident of progressing past Legia in their second-leg on Tuesday after beating them 2-0 in the first-leg.

  • Trnava won their first ever Slovakian top-flight title last season, eventually winning by a gap of five points, which secured their passage into the first qualifying round of the Champions League. They made hard work of the first round as they narrowly beat Zrinjski Mostar 2-1 after both legs. They’ve won one and drawn one of their two opening league games so far.
  • Like their opponents, Legia Warsaw won their domestic league last term by just three points. It meant they also qualified for first round qualifying where they beat Cork City 4-0 over both legs. They have picked up three points from their first two games of the 2018/19 season with their first league game being particularly disappointing as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Zagłębie.
  • Despite a league-winning performance, Trnava struggled to find a prolific goal scorer. Marvin Egho scored seven league goals, more than any of his team-mates.
  • Jaroslaw Niezgoda was Legia’s top scorer with 13 goals in their successful campaign but he’s yet to get off the mark so far this term.

As this is the second-leg of the tie, there has been one previous meeting between the two sides. It was last week and Trnava made sure they took didn’t let the home fans faze them as they managed to bring a vital 2-0 win back home for the second-leg. Erik Grendel put the visitors a goal ahead in the 16th minute before an injury-time goal from Ján Vlasko ensured that Legia would have it all to do in Slovakia.

After a brilliant first-leg performance, Trnava don’t have too much to do in front of their own fans. A first-half goal would certainly calm the mood while an away goal might make it a tougher task than expected.

However, the hosts are still firm favourites to qualify for the final round of qualifying with their two-goal advantage. It could be an exciting spectacle with the visitors having to attack from the first minute, an early goal could make it very interesting.
