As the Premier League comes to its dramatic conclusion, Chelsea could confirm their position as champions at the Hawthorns on Friday night as they travel to Birmingham to face West Brom. The hosts have very little to play for and sit a very respectable 8th in the table while the visitors are 7 points clear at the league’s summit, meaning a win would see them win the Premier League for the second time in 3 years.

  • West Brom haven’t won a single game in their last 6 as their position as a Premier League team for next season was confirmed several weeks ago after a brilliant campaign under Tony Pulis. They scored their first goals in 6 games in their last match; a 2-2 draw with Burnley.
  • Chelsea have won all 4 of their last 4 games and have shown all season that they deserve to lift the Premier League in a couple of week’s time. A 3-0 demolition of Middlesbrough, which sent them down, was their result in their last match and showed that they’re showing signs of slipping up in their pursuit of the title.
  • Salomon Rondon has led the line brilliantly for West Brom this season but his goals have dried up along with his team’s goals, he’ll be desperate to make it 2 goals in 2 games against the league leaders as 2 more goals will take him into double figures for the season.
  • Diego Costa scored his 20th league goal of the season when he scored Chelsea’s second against Middlesbrough and a brace may even see him return to the fold as a late favourite for the Premier League golden boot.

Chelsea have won 3 of the last 5 league meetings between the sides but West Brom know how to frustrate the Blues as they’ve won 1 and drawn 1 of the 5 games. The return fixture back in December ended 1-0 to Chelsea as Costa got the only goal of the game.

With very little motivation for West Brom in this game, they’ll still be hoping to finish as high as possible as several teams are breathing down their necks in 8th place. They’ll also want to delay Chelsea’s title party and at this late stage of the season, they don’t have any injuries to worry about so they’ll be able to play with freedom.

On what could be another historic night for Chelsea Football Club, they’ll want to wrap the title up as early as possible especially as title rivals, Tottenham, don’t play until the Saturday after their match. With no absentees of their own, Antonio Conte will be fully expected to put out his strongest possible team.

As Chelsea get ever closer to getting their hands on their 5th Premier League title since Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003, they should confirm their place as champions against West Brom. With nothing to play for, West Brom will be on the beach while Conte’s men will want to run riot to rub it into the faces of Spurs fans as much as they can. A big win for Chelsea is expected as they ease to the title.
