On a Premier League weekend where Manchester City have been confirmed as champions, it will be wrapped up by Stoke’s trip to the London Stadium on Monday night. It’s a game that will have big implications at the bottom end of the table as Stoke are in the relegation zone in 19th and West Ham aren’t far from safe in 15th.

STATS

  • It’s been an awful season for West Ham that could've been so different. Although, they are just a few points from confirming a top-flight place after looking as though they would be one of the sides to go down. Their form has reflected in their league position of late with just one win in their last five, however, they managed to pick up a strong 1-1 draw with Chelsea last time out.
  • Stoke need answers fast if they are to stay up and a loss on Monday would give them so much to do in such a short space of time. They haven’t won a single one of their last nine and they’ve lost each of their last four games. They were unlucky to lose 2-1 against Tottenham last week as Harry Kane’s ‘goal’ stole the headlines.
  • Marko Arnautovic has had a brilliant season despite his side’s poor performances. With nine goals, he’s the Hammers’ leading scorer.
  • It’s a similar story for Xherdan Shaqiri who will almost certainly leave if Stoke go down. He has seven goals and is the Potters’ top scorer.

HEAD TO HEAD

Meetings between Stoke and West Ham have been very close in the last few years. Both sides have won once in the last five with three draws making up the rest, it was West Ham who took Stoke apart earlier in the season at the bet365 Stadium as they went back to London with a 3-0 victory. It’s not a match that historically produces goals, over 2.5 have been scored in just two of the last six meetings.

WEST HAM NEWS

Three points for the hosts would take them into 12th and go a long way to ensuring they are not relegated. Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell might return to the side while Andy Carroll will also have a late fitness test.

STOKE NEWS

Even a win for Stoke wouldn’t take them out of the bottom three but it would pull them closer to safety. Eric Choupo-Moting and Konstatinos Stafylidis are both injured and probably won’t feature for the rest of the season.

SUMMARY

Despite a long list of injuries, this is West Ham’s match to lose in front of their own fans. Stoke need a result desperately but as they have shown repeatedly over the course of the season, they will be too easy to break down, especially for a strong Hammers attacking line.
